Grain

Nothing from a call becomes content until the other person and their company are anonymised and the case is checked for whether it can be used.

What you learn in the first month

Recordings land in our database and get scanned for content ideas, and for sales calls the recording and transcript also become input for proposals. The rule before anything goes public is fixed: the other caller and their company are anonymised, and the case is checked for whether it is suitable to use at all. On consent we send an email roughly 24 hours ahead saying the meeting will be recorded, mention it again at the start and ask whether anyone objects. Around nine in ten are fine with it. Transcript quality used to vary a lot by language. Across the languages we work in it is now close to parity.

We earn a commission if you sign up through some of the links on this page. What each tool teaches you is written from running it, and the hosting answer is the same whether we earn on it or not. Where there is no link, there is no programme we are part of.

Where the data sits

The United States. Grain states that it hosts all of its software in Amazon Web Services facilities in the USA, and its sub-processor list is almost entirely United States based, including the transcription and AI vendors that process the recordings. Neither page names a transfer mechanism for European customers.

Worth saying plainly: hosting outside the EU can still be GDPR compliant. It is not the same thing as EU data residency, and which one you need depends on who you sell to. What the law actually asks of you is a separate question with a separate answer.
